Dissecting A Giant: The Brain!

Just a quick one this time.

So, I’ve attempted to start writing this blogpost a few times now and very quickly came to the realisation that I don’t really have much to say that isn’t already in the book. So this one is gonna be pretty short and skip a lot of things, though I do have a few things to talk about.

Giants are… kind of weird.

I’m going to skip right past the GM advice and jump right into the tables with one of my favourites: THE GIANT GENERATOR! I specifically wanted giants in JKG to be really freaking weird, especially when it came to their weaknesses and physical appearance. Every giant is different to the point where it’s unclear if they’re actually a species of creature or just a collection of oddball kaiju walking out of the sea and wreaking havoc.

I had a lot of fun with these making them as much of a mixed bag of traits as possible. I love when a random roll gives you more questions than answers and sparks a bunch of ideas. For example, the giant I wrote up in the book as an example was rolled nearly entirely randomly from the table and I think perfectly illustrates how weird and whimsical I want giants to be. I mean… it’s a milk-drinking porcupine man with soft hands and a fish sauce allergy, how much weirder can you get? (That is a challenge, please show me all your weird giants)

Populating the World

Almost the entirety of the rest of the book consists of roll tables for generating all sorts of aspects of the world of Jack Kills Giants (tables I hope to expand on in later supplements). Tables for People, Towns and Cities, Locations and Encounters in all sorts of environments. Something I really like in games like Electric Bastionland how they can create rich, detailed worlds without setting everything in stone, just proving lots of flavourful tables. I intend to do that with everything Jack Kills Giants.

One of my favourite sets of roll tables, so much fodder for fun encounters.

This will be the end of this little 4 part dive into Jack Kills Giants, like I said, not much to really say that isn’t already being said in the book itself. Speaking of which, keep and eye out for a very special announcement very soon about when you’ll be able to buy the actual book for yourself! (It will be very very soon…)

Next Time: Big announcements!

Later: Something… very different.
